Description
High resolution sprites for the Paper Mario version of the New Super Mario Bros Scuttlebugs.
Scuttlebugs first appeared in Super Mario 64, though with a much simpler design than even this (and no, that design's not getting sprites from me). In their second appearance- the remake of SM64, no less- the Scuttlebugs were redesigned into the form you see above. Since then, this design was used going forward, in games like Mario Party 7 and the later NSMB games.
In terms of Paper Mario, the Scuttlebugs' one and only official appearance was Paper Mario Sticker Star- this sprite sheet is in fact an uprezzed version of those sprites. In Sticker Star, the Scuttlebugs had a "land" mode with more ferocious attacks and a hanging mode very similar to the Piders and Arantulas from Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.
In the DMZ fangame topic timeline, the Scuttlebugs were replaced with Spoings (who I mistook for Galaxy versions of Scuttlebugs).
