King Bob-omb (Paper Mario)

Description

High resolution sprites for a Paper Mario version of King Bob-omb, the first boss of Super Mario 64 (and the first 3D model boss in the main series).

Invasive king of Bob-omb Battlefield, King Bob-omb holds his rulership and moustache in great regard. While watching the battlefield from the course's highest mountain, Mario approaches his royal ruffledness. The two titans of tender hair begin their battle. Unfortunately, while Mario cannot win by ringing out King Bob-omb, the hypocrite doesn't himself to the same rules. Instead, Mario has to throw the huge hair fetishist three times to win.

King Bob-omb has appeared several times since his first appearance. He's had several roles in the Mario Party series, from Mini Game objective to a hideaway mafia boss in Shroom City, and of course a recurring boss in the ND Cube era. In addition, when Super Mario 64 was remade for DS, the circumstances for his first battle were changed around so Yoshi fights him and the king throws Bob-ombs that must be spit/thrown back at him. This version of King Bob-omb carried over to Mario Kart DS.

King Bob-omb has not officially shown up in the Paper Mario series in and in itself. He did appear as a late boss in the Mario & Luigi crossover Paper Jam, interestingly with a cold "taking you all with me" personality. Due to King Bob-omb's status as the first 3D Mario platformer boss and this being the best example of Paper Jam handling main series only restrictions much better than the eighth gen Paper Mario games were, this battle stayed in the fangame topic recut of Paper Jam (albeit with his personality tweaked in light of Mario Party Advance).
